INVESTIGATION

February hold this obligatory space for love, connection, romance, etc. My theory is that we hold love against the moments of February because for so many people in the northern hemisphere, February is the bleak before the brightness. Even in Northwest Florida, where I grew up, February was grey and wet.

I want to honor the parts of us that look for something wholehearted and joyful in this month while also honoring that, for some people, the hyper focus on our hearts in February can bring about a particular strain.

So, this month, we will work on the heart as metaphor.

EXPLORATION

Here are some heart essays to begin your exploration:

The Heart by Jerald Walker

Dream of a Four Chambered Heart by Jennifer White

On Writing from the Heart by Vivian Conan

ACTION

In the exploration, there are three ways of looking at heart.

There are broken hearts, actual hearts, metaphorical hearts, and writing from a place of true connection and vulnerability.

In your writing this month, I suggest picking one of the three assignment options below, adapted from my favorite parts and interpretations of the readings from this month.
